"It was between the MX860. the 7840W, and the less expensive 490CW. By virtue of the fact that I am writing this 490cw Review, I guess you know which one I picked!

Without a doubt, this is a fantastic all-in-one printer! Setup was fast and simple. The printer connected with my wireless router in the blink of an eye. It loaded the correct drivers in several laptops and WOW! we were printing without wires!

The print quality for text and color images is super! I really like the 3.3" color screen, and is a helpful feature to have.


Having 4 different cartridges enables you to replace only the color that is empty. Slots for memory cards are available as well as flash drives, which lets you fax/scan direct to those when youcan't get to your p.c. When all is said and done, I couldn't be more pleased with the 490CW. At under 80.00, I felt like I was robbing Amazon!"

"I bought my Brother 490CW 3 weeks ago, and I quickly learned that you can't get a better product with equal features than this Brother all in one printer. I never used to like printing because I had to send documents from my laptop to our desktop workstation because that is where we have our wired HP all-in-one printer connected.

Those days are over, because now our whole family can print with their laptops anywhere. Every once in awhile, before I go to bed, I remember to print out something. When I wake up the next morning, it's waiting for me in the kitchen, where it was placed! I am totally thrilled with wireless printing!!

And this 490CW printer provides so many features for the low price. I am able to perform all the tasks need to do, including copy, scan and fax. It may not be high end, but it is more than adequate for regular needs. Recently, I bought 2 more as presents to my sisters!"

"I was happy to say good bye to my old clunky Canon, when I bought the 490cw from Brother. I must say I came out WAY ahead on this deal!

The Canon was cumbersome, and the wireless was hit and miss. Even setting it up on my network was a pain! It didn't have a wireless scanning feature, and there was no integrated fax.

This all in one has GOT to be the best one made for the price. I paid $89 for it just 3 weeks ago,and at the time of this 490cw review, I believe it's down to $79.

The wireless setup is very simple, simply one touch in your router. My encrypted (WPA-PSK) network, which can be tricky, was a breeze to set up.

I'm using Snow Leopard and compatibility is perfect. The utilities are only o.k.,but I don't use them much. The OCR works, scanning to a file is perfect, and printing is right on.

The print quality is pretty good, for a wireless all-in-one in this price range. It would be perfectly good for 90% of all documents. I must say, though, that text quality is VERY good. images are pretty good, You just have to remember that the Brother 490Cw is not a 400 dollar unit!

The cost of replacement refills is not bad. Installation of the cartridges is quite simple. This is a great All-in-one for a small home office and those who need a simple solution!"
